It was so much fun sharing about our work and we are so excited to share some stunning photos Zan took of our Rosewood Indigo Throw ! Happy Shop Small Saturday everyone! I am beyond excited for today's blog post because I get to highlight a brand who's mission aligns perfectly with the intentional design ethos of Zan Farrow Design! Allow me to introduce you to Variously, a sustainable textile brand based out of Detroit,Michigan. Brand founder Anjali Purohit has a background in fashion and has translated that experience into a beautiful lifestyle brand ! One of my goals in starting my business was to share products, trends, and companies that are designed to support your everyday rituals and Variously is exactly that! Their beautiful products are hand crafted in Nepal and made from environmentally friendly dyes, so cool! When choosing artisans, it was important for Anjali to find an artisan cluster she felt she could establish a long term relationship with. It's these long-standing artisan relationships that you are able to pursue a pure concept-based design collaboration. Through this process Anjali has seen how using hand-crafted techniques can directly empower an entire cluster of artisans (usually 5 to 10 people and their families.) This particular blanket I'm sharing is the Rosewood Throw in the shade Indigo. When I learned that the throw was made of merino I expected it to be a bit itchy but oh my goodness y'all this blanket is SO SOFT! It also comes in a gorgeous pink shade so I probably need them both! Did I mention that 80% of the makers, designers, photographers, bloggers, merchandizers and retailers that Variously works with are women? Heck yes!! Variously founder & creative director Anjali Purohit had a thoughtful conversation with @jibs_podcast about her journey in design industry , challenges of sustainable fashion, how @studiovariously is enabling itself as an emerging label in this domain of fashion by pursuing ethical practices through cross cultural design collaborations & complexities of supply chain in fashion among others. Have always enjoyed hearing out & learning from the curated podcasts of several amazing #detroit based entrepreneurs & so thankful + excited to be featured among them. People care only if people know, sums up the intention in participating in the Fashion Revolution Week for Variously as a sustainable design label based out of Metro Detroit area.
Variously is a young independent accessory label focusing on sustainable textiles and partners with global artisans to develop capsule collections in home & fashion that are concept driven rather than influenced by short lived trends. The whole purpose is to restore & revive heritage artisan clusters, also by involving sources local to the artisans like dyers, small farms to support inclusiveness in the supply chain. Variously only chooses to use highest qualities of natural yarns and dyes to accomplish a more environment friendly collection with minimal modern aesthetics for the socially conscious consumer. Being a part of Fashion Revolution week for Variously was mainly to kick off effective awareness for what Fashion Revolution does as an international organization and what Variously as a young ethical design label is working towards in Metro Detroit area. Variously founder, Anjali Purohit shared data organized & collected responsibly by Fashion Revolution over past few years to narrate the importance of what Fashion Revolution is doing globally and the impact of the outreach. It involved combining both the ethical working conditions for people who make our clothes and the processes adopted in production and its impact on environment on a day-to-day basis. Fashion as an industry is consumed by all in different price points and also happens to the biggest employer of women in its supply chain. As an industry it is part of the global culture scenario where diversity is celebrated both functionally and aesthetically. Due to its direct impact to our environment it is imperative we educate ourselves about why transparency is key to ensuring more responsible products. Showcasing Behind The Scenes of Variously in Fashion Revolution Week was a small but conscious step to join hands in a more transparent supply chain at a global level.
